'Aux Pas Des Bleus' takes its name from the Confrerie des Penitents Bleus who lived in Chassiers during the periods of the great plagues. They gathered together during these periods of terrible human loss in the hope that their prayers, austere and chaste lifestyle and self-chastisement would help reverse the effects of the plague. They dressed in long, hooded blue cloaks - not unlike the Cappucine monks in style - and paraded through the villages of the region chanting and praying in the belief that their suffering and faith would help end the black terror of the plague and restore life to normal.
